About
Carly Lucas
Dancer | Creator | Improviser

Carly Lucas is a freelance movement artist based in Boston, Massachusetts. Previously based in St. Louis, Missouri, Carly has performed with Pack Dance Company, Space Station Dance Residency, Karlovsky & Company, Anheuser-Busch, and more. In recent years, her focus has shifted to work that combines dance with alternative practices of art and athleticism, challenging the boundaries of what movement-based art can be. As a means for survival under late-stage capitalism, Carly also works as a dance instructor and arts administrator. Her teaching philosophy is centered around inclusivity, accessibility, and creating meaningful arts experiences for all. Some of her early career highlights in this realm include being a faculty member at Arts in Motion School of Dance and Music and producing children’s theatre at the Jewish Community Center of St. Louis. Carly is a proud graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance, a Minor in Business Administration, and Academic Honors in Writing. She credits her versatile education and incredible mentors for giving her the tools to produce full-length theatre and dance work, such as her most recent collaborative work, D!3L!V!NG (2023). As a fire sign and eldest daughter, Carly takes pride in her ability to "get sh*t done," and do it well. She has received several awards for her outstanding work, including the Builds Community Award (2023), the Overall Faculty Honorarium (2021), and the Lynnette Jordan Schisla Scholarship (2020). Finally, Carly is actively working on developing her life outside of the arts as a means for career sustainability and longevity. Some of her non-dance hobbies include going on long walks, listening to music and podcasts, and trying new restaurants.
