Carly Lucas

Dancer | Creator | Improviser

Carly Lucas is a freelance movement artist based in St. Louis, Missouri. She predominantly works in dance, but also enjoys the visual and theatrical arts. She is particularly interested how these different forms of art can intersect and inform each other. Since moving to St. Louis in 2021, Carly has worked for Consuming Kinetics Dance Company as a core company member and resident choreographer. She has also appeared in creative projects by Karlovsky & Company, Anheuser-Busch, World Chess Hall of Fame, and Stomp the World. As a means for survival under late-stage capitalism, Carly is a dance instructor at Arts in Motion School of Dance and Music, and produces children's theatre at the Jewish Community Center of St. Louis. (That phrasing is mostly used to poke fun at the reality of being a working artist. Don't be fooled - she loves these jobs too!) Carly graduated summa cum laude from Ball State University with a BFA in Dance Performance, a Minor in Business, and Academic Honors in Writing. She credits her versatile education and incredible mentors for giving her the tools to produce full-length theatre and dance work, such as her most recent collaborative work, D!3L!V!NG (2023). As a fire sign and eldest daughter, Carly takes pride in her ability to "get sh*t done," and do it well. She has received several awards for her outstanding work, including the Builds Community Award (2023), the Overall Faculty Honorarium (2021), and the Lynette Jordan Schisla Scholarship (2020). Carly is known to be always on the move, whether that be in her own city or traveling across the country. She plans to continue her travels to further her artistic career throughout 2024.
